Sacred Heart Introduces Whole School Rewards Program with Splashy Pool Party
Sacred Heart has recently launched an exciting initiative to foster positive behaviour and encourage the development of essential life skills among its students. Introducing a Whole School Rewards Program has sparked enthusiasm and a sense of anticipation within the school community. The first reward day occurred on the final day of Term 2 at the Thursday Island swimming pool, where students enjoyed a fantastic pool party!
The Rewards Program is designed to align with the whole school behaviour matrix, emphasising the value of delayed gratification and recognising students’ efforts in adhering to positive behaviours. By implementing this program, the school hopes to cultivate a supportive and encouraging environment that motivates students to make good choices and strive for personal growth.
The reward day was a resounding success. Students who consistently exhibited positive behaviour, demonstrated our value of Love by displaying safety, respect, responsibility and kindness were invited to vote for their favourite reward using our unique token system. The event allowed students to relax, have fun, and build strong relationships with their peers outside of the regular classroom setting.
“The Whole School Rewards Program is an innovative approach to reinforce positive behaviour and instil important life skills in our students,” said Principal, Mrs Majella Lynch-Harlow. “By introducing delayed gratification, we teach them the value of perseverance, self-control, and working towards long-term goals.”
The pool party served as a tangible reward for students’ efforts and allowed them to understand the correlation between positive behaviour and positive outcomes. It also showcased the importance of collaboration and communication as students worked together to obtain the rewards result they desired the most.
Beyond the excitement of the pool party, the Whole School Rewards Program aims to cultivate essential skills such as resilience, responsibility, and empathy. By encouraging students to set goals and work towards achieving them, the program fosters a growth mindset and equips students with valuable tools for their future endeavours.
The Sacred Heart community eagerly anticipates the upcoming reward day next term and this program’s positive impact on the student’s overall behaviour. As the program unfolds, Sacred Heart remains dedicated to nurturing its students’ personal growth, enhancing their self-esteem, and preparing them for success inside and outside the classroom.

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Kaurareg people, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which our school is built, the first to meet, learn, and celebrate here. We honour their enduring custodianship and the care they continue to give to this place. We respect their history and stories, which continue to sustain and inspire all who call this place home. We turn to God, Creator of all, who gives us strength and wisdom, guiding us to discern and pursue a better way in all that we do.
