Teachers and
Students Say...
I see every day the genuine respect and pride in culture that shapes our community. It’s a place where students feel a strong sense of belonging, families are welcomed, and culture is not just acknowledged but lived, shared, and celebrated.
Having taught around the world, coming back to the Torres Strait and this school just felt right. In Year 2, there’s a real buzz every day, lots of laughter, strong relationships, and a learning environment where kids are encouraged to be confident, curious, and proud of who they are.
I love Sacred Heart because all my friends are here and we do lots of fun learning. I enjoy STEM and Maths, and my favourite part of the day is talking about Jesus in class and playing with my friends at lunch.
Working in Learning Support at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is a privilege and a calling. I am deeply committed to ensuring every child is known, valued, and supported to succeed, and I am inspired daily by the life-giving message of Jesus Christ that calls us to service, compassion, and dignity for all.
I really like my school because everyone is kind and helps each other. I feel safe here, I have great friends, and my teachers make learning fun and exciting every day.

We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Kaurareg people, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which our school is built, the first to meet, learn, and celebrate here. We honour their enduring custodianship and the care they continue to give to this place. We respect their history and stories, which continue to sustain and inspire all who call this place home. We turn to God, Creator of all, who gives us strength and wisdom, guiding us to discern and pursue a better way in all that we do.
