Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School Campuses are located on Kaurareg country on Waiben (Thursday Island) and Kirriri (Hammond Island). Neighbouring islands include Nurapai (Horn Island) where our airport is located and Muralug (Prince of Wales Island).
Several clusters of islands lie in the Torres Strait which is the body of water between the tip of Cape York, Australia and Papua New Guinea. Collectively, these islands are often referred to as Zeneadth Kes. There are at least 274 of these islands, of which 17 have present-day permanent settlements. Waiben (Thursday Island) is one of the physically smaller islands in the Torres Strait but has the largest population and serves as the central administrative hub. |
