2026 School Annual Improvement Plan – Overview
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart continues to uphold its reputation as a leading co-educational school within the Diocese, grounded in strong relationships, Catholic identity, and high expectations for learning. The 2026 School Annual Improvement Plan has been informed by ongoing analysis of student data, staff collaboration, and consultation with Catholic Education Services, ensuring improvement priorities are focused, evidence-based, and responsive to student need.
Guided by the School Strategic Plan, the 2026 SAIP identifies one key improvement goal:
Excellence in Student Learning Outcomes through High-Impact Teaching Practices
This goal reflects a deliberate and sustained focus on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes across the school. Priority is given to building strong foundations in literacy in the early years and strengthening numeracy fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving in the later years. Consistent, structured teaching approaches, culturally responsive pedagogy, and data-informed decision-making will be embedded to ensure every student demonstrates measurable growth.
Business as Usual
Alongside this improvement focus, the school will continue to maintain strong and effective practice in the following areas:
- Wellbeing and Engagement: Nurturing a safe, supportive, and faith-filled environment that promotes belonging, resilience, positive relationships, and smooth transitions across key stages of schooling.
- Sustainable Stewardship: Ensuring financial sustainability, responsible enrolment practices, workforce development, cultural safety, and environmental responsibility informed by Catholic social teaching and Laudato Si.
- Enablers: Safeguarding, formation, student voice and agency, innovative technologies, family and community partnerships, governance, risk and compliance, and the ongoing development of data and digital literacy.
Progress against the 2026 SAIP will be monitored through clearly defined improvement indicators, regular data reviews, and termly reflection processes. The plan will be reviewed and shared with the community at the end of the year.
STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is guided by a clear set of Strategic Directions that shape the life and work of the school. Developed at the end of 2025 and in now place through to 2028, these Strategic Directions build on the insights and recommendations of our 2023 school review and are aligned with the Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns Strategic Directions. This ensures strong system alignment while remaining grounded in our local context, culture, and community.
The Strategic Directions provide a shared vision for learning, wellbeing, community connection, and sustainable stewardship. They inform decision-making, guide improvement planning, and support consistent, high-quality practice across the school.
Parents and carers are valued partners in this work and are encouraged to engage with the school as we continue to strengthen student learning, nurture wellbeing, and live out our Catholic identity together.
