Supporting Every Learner

At Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, we prioritise the wellbeing and inclusion of our entire school community. We firmly believe that a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment is essential for every student to thrive and reach their full potential. Our approach is grounded in strong relationships, early intervention, and a commitment to knowing each child well.

Inclusion support is provided through a dedicated Learning Support Teacher working in partnership with classroom teachers to deliver targeted adjustments, intervention programs, and personalised learning plans where required. Support is flexible and responsive, occurring both in and out of the classroom to ensure students remain connected to their peers while receiving the assistance they need. The Inclusion Hub provides a calm, supportive space for small group learning, individualised support, and short breaks that assist students to regulate and re-engage successfully with learning.

We also explicitly teach “learning to learn” skills, including routines, organisation, and independent learning strategies, supported by consistent morning routines that provide a calm and structured start to the day. This focus helps students build confidence, resilience, and readiness for learning.

Our school Guidance Counsellor/Wellbeing Officer plays an important role in supporting student wellbeing, providing a trusted point of contact for students to discuss any concerns. In addition to individual support, the Wellbeing Officer actively engages with students in classrooms and across the school, building strong relationships and fostering a sense of trust, safety, and connection.

Together, these supports ensure that wellbeing and inclusion are embedded in everyday practice, enabling every student to feel valued, supported, and able to succeed.

Bullyproof Australia

At Sacred Heart School, we proudly implement the Bullyproof Program, a proactive, evidence-informed approach to student wellbeing that focuses on building confidence, resilience, and respectful relationships. The program equips students with practical strategies to respond to bullying behaviours, develop emotional awareness, and strengthen their ability to manage social challenges safely and supportively.

Through Bullyproof, students are explicitly taught how to recognise different types of bullying, respond assertively rather than aggressively, and seek help when needed. A strong emphasis is placed on empowering students to be “upstanders” rather than bystanders, fostering a culture where kindness, respect, and responsibility are actively lived out throughout the school.

To further support our students’ well-being, our Guidance Counsellor visits for four weeks each term, providing additional support for individuals and groups as required.

In addition, we continue to strengthen whole-school practices aligned with our expectations of being Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Kind. By engaging staff, students, and families in a consistent and unified approach, we cultivate a positive school culture where every child feels known, valued, and supported.
